Norman Haight ~ master luthier

N
orman Haight began his music career with the violin at age ten. He moved on to oboe, which he studied for six years. His passion for the guitar started at age fourteen and he began teaching at age sixteen. Norm started to build his first guitar in 1989, which he continues to use in his recordings today.

Now a seasoned luthier, Norm crafts quality steel-string and classical nylon-string guitars along with all manner of strummed stringed instruments, complementing them with a variety of original designs and inlays. He also repairs and restores any stringed instrument.

Norm loves to share his passion for the guitar and teaching is one of his favorite methods. He and his wife open their home several times a year for a special guitar building camp, 1 Week - 1 Guitar, where three fledgling luthiers get to build their own guitars under his tutelage. He also gives presentations about guitar construction and maintenance to youth groups and civic organizations.

Norm lives with his wife of over 30 years, Sharon, their son, Mikki (who is a student at ASU and an expert at inlay), and Grandpa Bill (Sharon's dad), at their homestead: Rosewood Weyr, in the beautiful desert region of Scottsdale, Arizona. Here they open their home as their showroom where they offer guitars crafted by independent luthiers, including the extraordinary instruments Norm makes. Norm's shop and teaching area are located here too.
