Luthier: Norman began to build his first guitar in 1991, which he continues to use in his recordings today. Now a seasoned luthier, Norm crafts quality classical nylon-string and steel-string guitars and mandolins, complementing them with a variety of original designs and inlays. He also repairs and refurbishes any stringed instrument.
Musician: Norman began his music career with violin at age ten. He moved on to oboe, which he studied for six years. His passion for the guitar started at age fourteen and he began teaching at age sixteen. As an adult, Norm specialized in classical guitar studies in Austin, Texas. He has been the featured guitar soloist at Ascension Lutheran Church in Paradise Valley, and accompanied the Fountain Hills Community Chorus on bass and classical guitar for several years. His albums include “Renegade Renaissance,” which features classical music from the 14th to the 20th centuries, “A Guitar for Christmas,” comprising many long-time favorites played on classical guitar and mandolin and "at home," with 11 of his own original compositions for guitar.
Teacher: Norm teaches at Nova Records, in Fountain Hills, and from his home studio. Norm gives presentations about guitar repair and construction to youth groups and civic organizations. His lessons blend playing styles and techniques with elements of music theory and composition.
Today Norman composes, performs, records, teaches, builds and repairs guitars and mandolins at his studio and shop at Rosewood Weyr, in the beautiful desert region of Scottsdale, Arizona. |
