Xaver Guitars

Gerry Gruber has been building custom acoustic steel-string guitars (and the occasional electric) since 1999. Xaver Guitars, named after Gerry’s grandfather, a German cabinet-maker, provides high quality acoustic guitars for immediate sale as well as custom-built guitars. Gerry’s guitars are characterized by clear, balanced tones, easy playability, and attention to detail. His shop is located in Ottawa, Canada, the heart of the Eastern Ontario hardwood forest region, providing him ready access to some of the most gorgeous hardwoods in the world.

For as long as he can remember, Gerry has been building things from wood. He acquired his first woodworking tool, a coping saw, as a gift at the age of 10. Over the past 40 years he has made wooden toys, furniture, and more recently custom acoustic guitars.

Music has been a part of Gerry’s life since he was six, when he began musical instruction in voice and piano. At the age of twelve, he received his first guitar and at 14 began playing in the church choir. His university studies also included instruction in music theory.

Thirty-six years after joining his first choir, he continues to play guitar at Divine Infant Church in Ottawa, Canada. In addition to Christian music, Gerry enjoys playing and listening to Country, Bluegrass and Evergreen/Schlager music. Gerry’s personal collection of musical instruments includes a variety of guitars, a mandolin, two violins, a piano, an electric keyboard, a flute, and a trumpet. He also composes music and creates midi arrangements to accompany his music ministry at Divine Infant.

Gerry is a member of the Guild of American Luthiers and of the Association of Stringed Instrument Artisans.
