A dream come true
For the last three years we have been attending various Bluegrass, Renaissance and art fairs to show our instruments and sell our crafts. This experience was the inspiration for Haight Guitars, the store.
Here we discovered that there are players extremely interested in truly hand made instruments. By having a real "brick-and-mortar" store, we not only provide a place for our customers to experience and learn about hand made instruments, but also to become genuine friends as they return for bi-annual set-ups, accessories and more beautiful instruments.
We attended our first GAL (Guild of American Luthiers) convention in 2004 and became convinced that there was not only a market for this type of store, but a ready supply from small, independent luthiers who have few formal outlets for their instruments. At the 2006 convention, we were amazed at the enthusiastic reception we received when we announced our store and wish to show intruments from many different luthiers. We enjoy working with many artists, helping them get their instruments into the hands of players who will love them.
While there are many websites offering to sell handmade instruments we believe that buying an instrument is a personal experience and can only be disappointing done online. Today there are a small number of stores providing this service across the country the nearest being in Tucson, Arizona. So while Haight Guitars is not doing ground-breaking work, it is establishing a niche market store in the sixth largest metropolitan area in the U.S. Scottsdale, Arizona, is a largely up-scale city located in the heart of the Valley of the Sun. It is the perfect location for Sharon, Norm & Mikki to open their dream store, Haight Guitars.
